What can Liverpool really take away from their thrashing of Porto?

While most eyes were firmly fixed on the heavyweight clash between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool fans will have been keeping their attention on their side's Champions League last-16 first leg at FC Porto.

In the end, it turned out to be a non-event as Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners away from home in the cauldron of the Dragao.

Football writer John Brewin joined Joe and Kevin on the Football Show at full time and saw it as an easy night at the office.

"Let's just say if you're a Liverpool fan, you really enjoyed the evening," he said of the one-sided nature of the result.

"I do doubt though that their team will be granted as much space as they were given tonight by Porto who were hugely disappointing."

He added that the Porto team playing tonight have nothing on some of their most recent teams which didn't capitulate as badly on the European stage even against the strongest of opponents.

"Before the game, there was a bit of talk that Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold - they're both pretty new in the world of the Champions League - might get a chasing but in fact the opposite was true," he continued.

"They actually dominated down the flanks and then up front, tonight was Mane's night and Firmino scored but the goal by Salah, which is their second goal, I mean there is a player playing with such confidence at the moment.

"The way that he sort of controlled it with his head, sort of juggled the ball and converted with so much time, the time that the very best players have. What I would say about Salah is he's so good at the moment, how long can he keep this going? It's just unbelievable."
