James McClean helps raise funds for ill child in most recent act of generosity

James McClean has donated £670 towards a fund to help an ill child in his most recent altruistic move.

The West Brom footballer has been vilified for refusing to wear a poppy, tweeting about it and holding strong political views in the past but he has proven in recent weeks that there is more than just a rebellious streak in his personality.

The family of James McBride started a crowdfunding page with the hope of making £1,000 to fund the youngster's hospital treatment but with the help of the Irish international, they have now raised over £2,000.

James' mother Annemarie took to Facebook to thank everyone for the contributions:

“Thank you so much to everyone who has given us & James, all your well wishes, prayers and donations.

“We are so overwhelmed by all the support we have got from our family, friends and all of you amazing people of Derry.

“You are all so generous.

“Thank you so so much. xx”

Recently, McClean helped with the cost of a funeral of a young boy from Derry who was killed when he was truck by a car on a street near the Brandywell Stadium, where McClean used to play when he lined out for Derry City.
