Jack Byrne completes move to Blackburn Rovers

Jack Byrne has joined the increasing Irish contingent at Blackburn Rovers, by signing a one-year loan deal with the Championship club.

Byrne joins the Owen Coyle-managed side from Manchester City, where he has progressed through the underage ranks. Last season he was loaned to Eredivisie side SC Cambuur, and impressed in the Dutch top-tier.

The one-season deal was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon by the former Premier League champions.

Byrne has represented Ireland at underage level up to the Under-21 team, but has yet to feature for the senior team, despite training with Martin O'Neill's squad.

The 20-year-old Dubliner has yet to make a senior competitive appearance for Manchester City but his highly regarded by the Premier League side. His spell at Blackburn will be Byrne's first in senior football in England.

He becomes the second Irish player to sign for the club since Owen Coyle took charge earlier this summer. Anthony Stokes joined from Celtic earlier this month. The duo join centre-back Shane Duffy in hoping to help Blackburn achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
