WATCH | Republic of Ireland fans are in for a World Cup treat tonight

Republic of Ireland fans have the chance to relive one of the most memorable moments from the 2002 World Cup on their television screens tonight.

After all of the Roy Keane-shaped controversy that dominated Ireland's build-up to the 2002 World Cup, when the football got started for Mick McCarthy's side in Japan, things were decidedly more positive.

Thanks to a wonderful Matt Holland strike, a 1-1 draw had been secured in Ireland's opening group game against Cameroon.

Yet, if the 'Boys in Green' were to progress to the knockout rounds, it was likely that something better than a defeat would be needed from the second game against Germany.

This Sunday night on Eir Sport, you have a chance to live it all over again!

From 7:00 pm on Eir Sport 1 on Sunday night, you'll be able to watch the Republic of Ireland's 2002 World Cup clash with Germany all over again.

As part of their 'World Cup Gold' series, take yourself back 18 years to when a young Robbie Keane did what only one other man would manage to do against Germany in that World Cup.

In the eventual final, it would be Ronaldo who put the ball beyond Oliver Kahn to win the World Cup for Brazil. In this group game, it was Keane who managed to score a late equaliser that all but set Ireland up for a place in the last 16.

Every Saturday afternoon on Off The Ball, John Duggan has been joined by Daniel McDonnell and Johnny Ward to relive different World Cups of old.

If you've found yourself keen for more 2002 nostalgia, check out their chat about Saipan and all the rest right here.
