Harry Redknapp jokes porn star career plans could stop Benoit Assou Ekotto signing

Based on past interviews, former Tottenham and Cameroon left back Benoit Assou Ekotto's main interests lie well outside the realm of football.

Certainly, when the 33 year old does retire from his playing career, no one expects him to go into coaching, scouting or other football pursuits.

Last season, he was playing at French Ligue 1 side Metz on a one year deal which is due to expire.

Back in his peak years he played for Harry Redknapp at Tottenham between 2008 and 2012, although he had first arrived at Spurs as far back as 2006.

Assou Ekotto also spent time on loan with Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers. With Redknapp now in charge of Birmingham City, a few familiar faces wouldn't hurt at St Andrew's and it seems the ex-West Ham boss want the former Cameroon international to join him.

Except their appears to be a catch if Redknapp's comments on a raucously candid Spurs Show podcast episode are to be believed, although he seemed to be clearly joking about both Assou Ekotto and his interest in signing him.

"I got a phonecall from this guy: 'Oh, Mr Redknapp, I've got a fantastic player for you. One of your old players...Benoit!'" said Redknapp.

"But seriously, do you know what? I'm thinking 'yeah'. Somewhere inside you, you're thinking 'I can get him going again'. But he's admitted he wants to be a porn star."

After gales of laughter from the listening crowd and Spurs Show presenters, he added: "Maybe I can get another year out of him before he decides to do that."
