Graham Burke made it two goals in two games to give Shamrock Rovers their first win in nine attempts in the Dublin Derby in front of a record crowd in Tallaght Stadium.
Shamrock Rovers - aided by a strong breeze - dominated the play in the first half, with Burke finally breaking the deadlock after 26 minutes with a bullet header.
Aaron McEneff played a lovely side-footed pass down the left wing to Sean Kavanagh who swung a pin-point cross into the box and Burke left James Talbot with no chance in goals.
Rovers set out in this game like a team hurt by their own record in this derby.
Jack Byrne, who was instrumental to everything Rovers did, came close to opening the scoring on 15 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box, but a deflection off Conor Livingston brought it just wide.
One half-chance in the first half made for grim watching from a Bohemians perspective, but with a strong wind at their backs, Keith Long would have been content at only conceding the one goal in the opening 45 minutes.
Bohs started the half much better and with more intent than they showed in the entire first half. The first sign of danger came from a corner two minutes in when Conor Livingston flashed a header wide.
Darragh Leahy smashed a shot just over the bar two minutes later. They weren't taking this lying down.
Rescue
Graham Burke then came to the rescue for Shamrock Rovers twice in a matter of seconds clearing two balls off the line.
It all started when a lofted corner from Danny Mandroiu was met by Darragh Leahy at the back post who lifted the ball over Alan Mannus in goals, but Burke headed off the line.
The ball fell perfectly to Rob Cornwall on the edge of the box who connected perfectly, but again Burke was on the line to save the day.
Bohemians continued to push for an equaliser but as the clocked ticked away, so too did their chances of bringing the game level.
Rovers did well to ride the storm, substitute Greg Bolger providing much-needed support to his defence when called upon.
The result changes nothing on the table, Rovers stay in second with Bohemians behind them in third.
The points matter though, but what matters most for Rovers tonight, is that they have finally gotten the better of their rivals in this tie.
