It's truly the end of an era.
After 30 years sharing his insights as part of RTÉ's soccer panel, John Giles' time gracing our TV screens during Ireland matches and major tournaments has come to an end.
Just like his late, great co-panellist Bill O'Herlihy, who got a brilliant tribute after he departed the panel at the end of the 2014 World Cup, Leeds and Ireland legend John has left us with so many great TV moments.
As they waved him off goodbye, Eamon Dunphy, Liam Brady and RTE played out a fitting tribute for their long-time friend and colleague, while football fan President Michael D. Higgins also paid tribute to Giles for not only his work on television, but everything he's done for football in the country.

Fellow pundit Eamon Dunphy also had some touching words for the departing senior analyst as he stated that Giles "is the greatest football man we've ever had and there's nearly ever been in these islands."
