Lallana's probably too sensitive for his own good - Giles

John Giles reckons Liverpool's Adam Lallana might be getting a bit too sensitive about the fallout from his Southampton departure.

In an interview with the BBC, the midfielder admitted that he regretted and felt sad about the way his exit from St Mary's panned out and went on to say that he is "not stupid enough to think the way I left didn't leave a sour taste in a few people's mouths".

John was on Off The Ball tonight and is surprised that Lallana has not been pragmatic with his feelings.

"He seems to be a very sensitive type of lad - probably too sensitive for his own good because he obviously made a career move which he thought was for the better by going to Liverpool. So you have to live with that. You have to be tough minded," said John, who also said that during his playing career at Leeds United he would have gone to Italy if given the choice.

"I daresay, if there was freedom of contract in those times, for example when I was 28 and I had an opportunity to go to Italy, I would have gone."

John also gave his take on Sunderland manager Gus Poyet's decision to write an open letter to the club's fans after recent tension, saying it is unusual but that he likes the Uruguayan.
