Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says he can't understand why the announcement that John Terry will leave Chelsea at the end of the season has been made now.
Ex-Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville was a team-mate of Terry's at international level.
Confirmation that the club captain will leave Stamford Bridge came a day after defeat to Manchester United left them just four points clear of in form Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the Premier League.
Neville told Sky Sports News that Terry still has plenty to offer in their six remaining top flight matches.
"[Chelsea] are wobbling a little bit but if they wobble a little bit more in these next few weeks, you'd better get him in the team to get you over the line because he has got the experience and the resilience, robustness and toughness to get his team-mates over the line and drag them by the scruff of the neck," said Neville.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville added: "I don't understand the timing at all. I can't see where that suits Chelsea or the dressing room at all.
"It may be a distraction for the dressing room, a distraction for the club and the fans might be a little bit sad today on top of the news yesterday that they lost."
Similarly former Chelsea and Ireland defender Paddy Mulligan feels that Terry still has something to offer.
