Premier League chairperson Gary Hoffman has confirmed his intention to step down from the role.
He will officially vacate the position at the end of January.
Hoffman's departure comes less than two years after taking the job - but he has come under pressure since the Newcastle takeover.
The Saudi-led purchase of the club, and the manner in which it was handled, was a source of frustration for many Premier League clubs.
Hoffman has since come under pressure and has now succumbed to calls for his resignation.

"It has been a privilege to lead the Premier League through the last two seasons - when the spirit of English football has been more important than ever," Hoffman said.
‘Now, I have decided the time is right for me to stand aside to allow new leadership to steer the League through its next exciting phase.’
The statement also added that the "Premier League is grateful to Gary for his committed service.
"He has led the League during the most challenging period in its history and leaves it in a stronger position than ever.
"The process of appointing a new Chair will begin immediately."
