Manchester United should start Alejandro Garnacho after the World Cup

Alejandro Garnacho is electrifying and would benefit from starting for Manchester United now, says Shane Keegan.

Shane Keegan spoke to Stephen Doyle about Alejandro Garnacho after Manchester United beat Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League.

The World Cup is almost upon us and we're certain to see a new star emerge.

Even while this World Cup is wrong for many, many reasons, the football aspects will hopefully be somewhat similar to prior competitions. But before the World Cup begins next week, Manchester United have an emerging star of their own.

Alejandro Garnacho is just 18 years of age. He had a sublime assist midweek against Aston Vill and came off the bench today to score the winner against Fulham.

Erik ten Hag is not going to trust an 18-year-old to be a foundational player of his team. Ten Hag has also already suggested Garnacho has attitude issues to work through. But Shane Keegan thinks Manchester United need to give Garnacho a run of games.

"I'd let him at it now," Keegan said.

"I'd let him at it for a while, and look, you give him a handful of games. He might be electric in the first two or three and then lads figure him out a little bit more. It might tail off towards game four or game five. And you can pull him back out of the side then."

Keegan suggests exposing Garnacho to consecutive starts without making him a full-time starter. Manchester United have injury problems at the moment and the World Cup break is coming. So this move would come in December. Ten Hag could prepare Garnacho and lay out a plan for him to start after the World Cup.

Jadon Sancho is not going to the World Cup, so he has an opportunity to work his way back into favour also over the next month.

But Garnacho is clearly the spotlight winger in Manchester United right now.

"With the confidence he's got, the place becomes electric when he's on the ball. To me I would think he has to get a run of games. And as I say, I understand they can't be heading into the second half of the season relying on this man week in and week out.

"From the moment he came on today, he's the ultimate example of an edge-of-your-seat player. Everytime he got the ball you're waiting for something to happen."

Eddie Howe has no shame.
