Gareth Bale struck twice in the first half of Real Madrid's La Liga clash against Leganes this weekend, to retain their spot at the summit of the table.
Bale recently renewed his contract with La Liga and showed his continued worth to the club on a day when the team's overall display lacked conviction just days after they dropped a 2-0 lead against Legia Warsaw in the Champions League.
His first goal against the newly promoted side arrived on 37 minutes, after linking up with Isco to bypass the defence and slip the ball inside the near post. His second came on the stroke of half-time with a close range effort on the back of some poor defending.
Cristiano Ronaldo was quiet in comparison to Bale but he did provide the assist for a third goal opportunity for Bale. The resultant shot however, was parried away by goalkeeper Jon Serantes.
The victory now leaves Real Madrid five points clear of Barcelona, who are taking on Sevilla later this evening.
