GALLERY: A look back on some of Robbie Keane's finest moments in a green shirt

Robbie Keane today announced he will retire from international football following Ireland's upcoming friendly against Oman.

The 36-year-old is the country's record goalscorer by some distance (67 goals in 145 apps) and has been a legend of Irish football since his international debut against the Czech Republic in March 1998. He scored his first senior goal against Malta in October that same year.

He's featured for Ireland at three major championships - The 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine and in Ireland's most recent appearance at the European Championships in France in June.

He was known for his trademark celebration and has been one of the iconic figures of Irish football since the turn of the millennium. His career at club level (which continues to this day in LA) has seen him join clubs like Liverpool, Inter Milan, Leeds, Tottenaham and Celtic.
