Arsenal's Gabriel has tested positive for COVID-19

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes will miss two matches after he tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, the club has confirmed.

The Brazilian will be out of action for Arsenal's upcoming fixtures against Brighton and West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday and Saturday respectively.

Arsenal confirmed the news in their injury update on Monday, following their match against Chelsea the previous Saturday.

The statement said that Gabriel "has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating according to UK Government and Premier League protocols.

"We will continue to monitor and support Gabriel, and we are hoping he will be available again after our next two matches."

In the same injury update, the Gunners announced that midfielder Thomas Partey was recovering well from his left thigh injury, and has progressed from the update at the beginning of December.

"He has started to train outside and will continue with his daily assessments and monitoring," the statement said.

Brazilian David Luiz has also returned to outdoor training, and is set to rejoin the full squad at the end of December, ahead of Arsenal's clash with West Brom. He is joined by winger Willian, who is also set to make a return by New Year's Eve.

The pair were ruled out of the match against Brighton due to illness, however it was confirmed by the club that they had not tested positive for COVID-19.

Arsenal earned their first win in eight matches with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the weekend, giving manger Mikel Arteta some much-needed relief from relegation rumours.

They will be looking to get one over Sam Allardyce's West Brom side after they take on Brighton on Tuesday.
