French police carry out controlled explosion ahead of France's clash with Iceland

French police have carried out a controlled explosion on a car outside the Stade de France before tonight's Euroepan Championship quarter-final clash between France and Iceland.

Security forces decided to perform the explosion after investigating what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle.

The caption reads: "Controlled explosion by the police near the Stade de France for a suspicious car parked nearby."

There has been no further information has been issued by police. The incident is not expected to impact on the match which kicks off at 8pm Irish time.

"These checks happen regularly in Paris. They did not blow up the entire car," said a police spokesperson.
