Fraser Forster insists Celtic have nothing to fear in Europa League

Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster insists that the club have nothing to fear in their attempt to progress in the Europa League despite having to face the side that dumped them out of this season's Champions League.

Group opponents and Romanian champions Cluj sent the Hoops packing with a 4-3 second leg win at Parkhead in the Champions League qualifiers before being knocked out themselves in the play-off round.

Serie A side Lazio and Rennes are the other teams in Celtic's group and Forster has been buoyed by their opening 1-1 draw away to the French club.

"There's nothing to be afraid of," said Forster, who is in his second spell at Parkhead having returned on loan from Southampton.

"We were very much in the game [against Rennes] and on another day maybe we win that game.

"There's no reason we can't be really positive and try to pick up a lot of points. Whether away to Cluj or Lazio or at home, we have nothing to fear."

Forster confident ahead of Cluj rematch

Forster was still with his parent club when Celtic were knocked out of European football's top competition just less than two months ago.

The England international is expected to be between the sticks when the Scottish Premiership champions host Cluj in the Europa League on Thursday week.

Forster believes they should put the August tie behind them and not treat the next meeting like some sort of revenge mission.

"On another day, we would have beaten them and gone through to the Champions League," added Forster.

"It's been and gone. I don't think there's a score to settle. It's just a case of us going out and knowing what we want to do and the levels we have set.

"If we do that, I'm confident we will get a positive result."
