Frank De Boer set to take over at Inter Milan after Roberto Mancini's departure

Roberto Mancini has been fired as Inter Milan manager, but it seems that the club already have a replacement in mind to fill the vacancy.

Mancini's departure was confirmed by the club on Monday morning in a statement on their website, stating "F.C. Internazionale Milano confirms that it has parted company with head coach Roberto Mancini by mutual agreement.

"Inter would like to place on record its thanks to Roberto for the work carried out with the team since joining in November 2014."

Mancini's departure came after he learned of the club making contact with other mangers, while a series of poor results in pre-season and rumours of a player revolt have not helped his case either. As a result, the new Chinese owners of the club, Suning Holdings, have decided to make a move for former Ajax manager De Boer.

According to Dutch football site Voetbal International, a deal for the Dutchman is nearly done, with only a few details left to be ironed out in the next 24 hours or so, in particular the length of the contract, which De Boer would like to be three years.

De Boer had been linked with moves to Everton and Southampton in the Premier League during the summer, but Ronald Koeman and Claude Puel stepped into the roles available there. The former Dutch international was said to have turned down a number of offers, stating that he wanted some time away from the game after leaving Ajax in May.

However, it appears that he has been lured out of his planned sabbatical as he sees Inter as a unique opportunity, given the size of the club and the new owners, who could back him in the transfer market.
