Wigan Athletic have appointed their former player Paul Cook as their new manager.
The Liverpool native joins the League One side from Portsmouth, where he won the League Two title last season.
Cook managed in the League of Ireland with Sligo Rovers between 2007 and 2012 during a particularly successful era for the North-West club.
He led the club to FAI Cup glory in 2010 and 2011, while the Bit o' Red also claimed the League Cup in 2010.
Although Ian Baraclough had replaced him at Sligo at the start of the title winning 2012 Premier Division season, Cook helped pave the way for the club's success in the previous years.
Cook left Rovers for Accrington Stanley in England, before quickly moving on to Chesterfield for a three year spell.
The 50 year old then took charge of a beleaguered Portsmouth in 2015 and guided Pompey to promotion from League Two this past season by topping the table.
Cook played for new club Wigan from 1984 to 1988 and later returned on loan during the 2001-02 season.
The Latics were relegated from the second tier English Championship last season after finishing second from bottom.
