Former German goalkeeper moves a step closer to becoming a wrestler

Four years ago, Tim Wiese was in Germany's Euro 2012 squad. He now looks set to join the WWE as a professional wrestler.

The 34-year-old has joined company's Performance Center, to try and become a WWE superstar. Wiese broke the news on Tuesday after personally being invited by the WWE's Triple H.

Wiese played six times for his country and is best remembered for his spell at Werder Bremen. The highlight of his career came in 2009, when he won the German Cup.

"He continues to be very vocal in his desire to prove that he has what it takes, and he has shown tremendous resilience and determination to create an opportunity for himself. This is his break to walk his talk. If all goes well in Florida, he will get his chance in the ring", Triple H told WWE's website.

The former goalkeeper has already stepped foot in a WWE ring. He featured at a local show in Germany in 2014, acting as an "enforcer" in a match, that was not broadcast on tv.

Wiese hopes to compete in a match, when the WWE returns to Germany late this year. “No matter what it takes, my goal is to be in that WWE ring this November. I want that match!"
