Ex-Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has revealed the horrific details of death threats she received while working at the club.
Carneiro detailed the treatment she was subjected to at the Premier League club to the Daily Telegraph which was published today.
The medic left the club last year following a dispute with then manager Jose Mourinho who lashed out at Carneiro on the opening day of the 2014/2015 season when the doctor ran onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Carneiro discussed the death threats she received as well as other forms of discrimination following her exit from Chelsea.
"Even though I don't have a presence on social media - I think I have made one post ever in my life - some of the threats of sexual violence and death threats make it through," she told the Telegraph.
"They (the abusers) just seem to be faceless cowards and they should be answerable to legislation."
"I think sexism is the least challenged form of discrimination. Anti-Semitic and other racist comments are widely condemned and I don't think that is the case (with sexism) and it begs the question what that leaves room for behind the scenes. It is widely accepted that football has a discrimination problem. I really do feel that way, but I think it is the least challenged form of discrimination."
Carneiro reached a discrimination settlement with Mourinho earlier this year, and received an apology from the club. She is still based in London where practices at her own clinic.
Swedish referee Anders Frisk previously resigned in 2005, following death threats he received from Chelsea fans for controversially sending off then striker Didier Drogba.
