Former Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has reportedly been arrested on a flight arriving at Gatwick Airport.
The Sun report that the Dublin-born footballer, 31, was taken into custody by Metropolitan Police over an outstanding arrest warrant.
Stokes was returning from a holiday in Dubai before a call was made over the public address system for him to make himself known to the Emirates staff.
Stokes is currently contracted to Iran's Persepolis FC, based in Tehran.
The newspaper report eyewitness accounts of the commotion on board the plane at the time of his alleged detention.
“I heard raised voices in the cabin and we were all told to stay in our seats for them to deal with someone on the plane," said the unnamed source.
“They asked for Mr Anthony C Stokes to come to the front of the plane with his luggage.
“He was walked off and I later saw him and another man standing by the baggage belts.”
Stokes began his career at Arsenal in 2005, before moving to Sunderland under the management of Roy Keane.
