Ex-France World Cup winner disputes Griezmann's Player of the Tournament award

Former France and Chelsea defender Franck Leboeuf has questioned why UEFA decided to award Antoine Griezmann Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament.

The French forward was top scorer with six goals and crucial finishes in the knockout stages but Leboeuf, who won the World Cup in 1998, has told RMC radio in his homeland that he did not agree with the decision.

"I like Griezmann a lot, but he was not the player of the tournament. I do not agree with this choice. We have to be critical," he said.

"We only saw him from the quarter-finals on. He got two chances in the final, but he did not take them. We did not see too much of him otherwise. But UEFA has always worked like this. They always give man of the match to the player who scored too."

Instead, Leboeuf believes Portgal defender Pepe should have got the award.
