Everton donate £200,000 to help five-year-old Sunderland fan battling cancer

Everton are commonly known as 'The People's Club' and with gestures like the one given to Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery, it's easy to see why.

The five-year-old was one of Sunderland's mascots on Monday night, before the team's 3-0 loss to Everton. Lowery is suffering from cancer, and his family hope to raise £700,000 to help with treatment in America. After Monday's win, Everton donated £200,000 to the fund.

Along with the donation, the club also announced they will auction off the player's signed shirts from the game, in support of the fund. Sunderland travel to Goodison Park in the return fixture on the last weekend on January. Bradley and his family have been invited to the game as special guests of the club.

During Monday's game, Lowery's name was sung by the Sunderland fans in the fifth minute, to gain awareness of his situation.

Hundreds of fans have donated to his cause, since the Everton gesture, with just under £520,000 having been raised at the time of writing.
