Eric Garcia heading for City exit after turning down new contract

Eric Garcia looks set to leave Manchester City this summer after turning down a contract extension at the Etihad.

The 19-year old defender has just entered the final year of his current deal at the Premier League runners-up.

However, his manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that talks over a new deal have bore no fruit.

Garcia made 13 top flight appearances for City this season, but is likely to see his path to the first-team further clogged by the €45million arrival of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.

The defender moved to City from Barcelona's La Masia academy in 2017, but could be set for a return to the Catalan giants.

"He announced to us that he doesn't want to extend his contract with Manchester City," Guardiola said prior to Friday's Champions League game with Real Madrid.

"He has one more year and after that, he doesn't want to extend. We want it but he doesn't want to, so I imagine he wants to play in another place."

Garcia is reportedly one of Barcelona's key defensive targets this summer.

It's believed City were willing to treble his wages from £12,000 (€13,333) a week to around £40,000 (€44,444) plus bonuses.

City have made a habit of letting younger players slip away in recent seasons.

Jadon Sancho left for Borussia Dortmund for a reported €9million in 2017. He's now set to join Manchester United for a fee believed to hover around €120million.

While Brahim Diaz was another whose contract trickled down to the point where City sold him to Real Madrid for €17million in 2018.
