German club Dynamo Dresden have been handed a €60,000 fine by the German FA (DFB) after fans threw a severed pig's head from the stands during a cup game against rivals RB Leipzig.
The Second Division side have been punished for the incident and for striking a player with a coin, as well as for unfurling banners in protest of their opposition.
Dresden have been on probation since last season and were protesting against their Saxony-based counterparts and the commercial influence of their owners Red Bull.
The energy drink company have been bank rolling the club since their takeover of the then-fifth tier team (originally called SSV Markranstädt). The Austrian energy drink manufacturer bought the club’s licence, changed its name, crest and kit, and reportedly promised €100m in transfer funds.
Since then, they have ascended to the German top flight and have been inextricably linked with the brand.
The German football does not allow clubs to be named after their sponsors, so the club was christened Rasenballsport Leipzig, meaning "lawn ball sports". The team are more commonly referred to as "The Red Bulls".
Supporters across Germany have taken to protesting against the hugely commercial drive behind the club and many fans feel that these efforts have overstepped the mark.
