Darragh Moloney will do well to don a boxing ref’s outfit for RTÉ’s next football panel containing Richie Sadlier and Eamon Dunphy. Ger and Eoin discussed the tête-à-tête on OTB:AM.
Dunphy has taken - somewhat predictable - umbrage to Sadlier’s Irish Times column, in which he made the point that Hoolahan’s personal life undermined his talent in the earlier part of his career.
In his Daily Star column, Dunphy took it upon himself to respond, saying “It was disgraceful, and utterly shameful, in a particularly sour piece in the Irish Times Sadlier did his best to sully Hoolahan’s reputation.
“Richie Sadlier had to make it all about Richie Sadlier. What he wrote on Saturday was damaging and demeaning to Hoolahan.
“I’ve talked to various people who know Wes and who have worked with him – they are bewildered by what Sadlier wrote, pointing out that it bears no relation to the reality.”
Perhaps unbeknown to Richie, mortally offending Eamon Dunphy is actually now a prerequisite for every Irish citizen in the State. Off the Ball sources say that Mary McAleese is next in line.
