Donal Conway is set to step down as President of the FAI at the EGM on the 25th of January 2020.
In a surprising announcement this morning, the association revealed in a statement that Conway intends to step down, just six months on from being re-elected as president.
In July he received 96% of votes for the role at the AGM in Co. Meath.
At that meeting, Conway; who has been a serving member of the FAI board since 2005, won 134 votes out of a possible 140. Five people voted against him, with one abstention.
At the time Conway said that he did not wish to sit on the FAI board after the 2020 AGM.

The FAI's statement today has said that the EGM will be convened for the purpose of electing Conway's successor.
He will apparently address the Members of the Association at the reconvened AGM that's to be held on the 29th December 2019 at noon in Citywest Hotel regarding his decision.
The statement then went on to say that the Board will seek nominations after the 29th December for the position of President of the FAI.
Any person who is a serving member of Council and who has been a member of Council for two years, in accordance with FAI practice, shall be eligible to be elected as President of the FAI.
The FAI are due to publish their accounts today and it's expected they will show the association is in a considerable amount of debt.
A press conference that was due to take place at 12 midday today has been pushed back to 1 pm.
