Diarra on the verge of Hammers deal

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed Lassana Diarra is training with the club with a view to signing a short-term deal.

The former Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid midfielder is available for free after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow.

Allardyce expects ex-France international Diarra, who played a key part in Les Bleus' infamous World Cup play-off victory over Ireland in 2009, to become a West Ham player.

"I’m not so sure whether we’ve finalised a deal yet but he has been doing a little bit of training with us," said the Hammers boss of Diarra, who hasn't featured for France since 2010.

"I think the deal is very close to being finalised.

"I think that on the basis of where we are at the minute - with our squad and the injuries - as soon as we get him fit he’ll be a very good addition."
