Derry continue signing spree with arrivals of Meite and Dunwoody

Derry City have signed two more players ahead of Friday's resumption of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Former Crawley Town striker Ibrahim Meite, and ex-Stoke City midfielder Jake Dunwoody have joined the Foyleside club until the end of the season.

Meite joined Bulgarian second tier side Pirin Blagoevgrad in March, but only managed to make one appearance before COVID-19 brought an end to their season.

The 24-year old was then released by his parent club Crawley.

"Ibrahim was signed by Neil Warnock for Cardiff City," said Candystripes manager Declan Devine, "He’s very strong, very direct, exactly what we need. Somebody to lead the line."

Joining Meite at the Ryan McBride Brandywell is Northern Ireland U21 international Jake Dunwoody.

The midfielder made over 50 appearances for Stoke's U23s in Premier League 2, but failed to crack the first team set-up at the Bet 365.

"I spoke to (Northern Ireland manager) Ian Baraclough about Jake," Devine said, "I’ve known him for a while in the Northern Ireland setup.

"He’s quality, really looking forward to seeing him playing. Baraclough thinks it’s a great idea for him to play at that standard with Derry City."

Derry resume their season on Friday evening with the visit of Sligo Rovers to the Brandywell.

The game will be played behind closed doors after the Candystripes opted against allowing 500 spectators into their ground.
