Now is the time to replace Mick McCarthy with Stephen Kenny as the senior Republic of Ireland manager, according to Damien Delaney.
While the former Ireland international believesMcCarthy has done a decent job with the side during his time in charge, he believes a change is needed for the team to improve.
“I think Mick’s got as much out as he’s going to get out of the players with the way we’re going about it.
“Okay, it was a decent performance but it wasn’t fantastic. We lacked a little bit of quality but we’ve been saying that for how long now?
“Look, I don’t think you can ask any more of Mick McCarthy. He did what he said he was going to do. He got us there.
“We were within five minutes of clinching a winner and getting us there. I think he’s done all he can do if I’m being honest with you,” Delaney said.
"We’ve tried this way and we’ve been trying it for a long time and yeah we’ve had a little bit of success with it. But let’s start the process now. The former Crystal Palace defender wants the process to start anew following the draw with the Danes and believes introducing some up and coming stars is the way forward.
“I really love Mick and he’s fantastic but this style of play and the way we’ve been going about it for eight or even more years. Maybe 11 years, Trapattoni got it in 2008 didn’t he?
“So maybe it’s time to start the process now. Get in Josh Cullen - he looked fantastic in the middle of the park he’s a really tidy footballer.
“Maybe get Troy Parrott some more minutes in competitive games in those qualifiers. It might not be a bad thing to do.
“Just move away from what we’ve tonight. Because it’s just not good enough. The gap is only going to keep getting bigger.
While the Corkman is fond of Mick McCarthy he reiterated that the way forward is for Kenny to assume the top job as soon as possible.
“I like Mick I really do. I think he’s a fantastic fella and all that but we’ve tried this way and we’ve been trying it for a long time and yeah we’ve had a little bit of success with it.
“But let’s start the process now. Let’s just go man,” Delaney commented.
