Dean Henderson suffering 'prolonged fatigue' from Covid

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is to miss the club's training camp in Scotland this week.

In a short statement released on Monday, United say he is suffering from the after effects of Covid-19.

Henderson contracted the virus three weeks ago and is suffering from prolonged fatigue.

Injury forced the shot-stopper to miss Euro 2020 with England.

He had been nursing a hip problem, which he's understood to have recovered from.

"Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United’s Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago,” the club said in the statement.

“He is expected to be training again soon.”

Injury

He spoke recently about his hip issues and the reason he had to pull out of Gareth Southgate's squad.

"Obviously, I was devastated at the time, when I had to pull out of the squad, but I had an injury ongoing from the Burnley game last season and I was really struggling,” he said.

“I had a really bad left hip and I needed it to be addressed and I took a scan when I was away with England.

"I tried to keep it quiet because obviously, I wanted to be involved and not miss any games towards the end of last season, I just wanted to keep the momentum going.

“For me, it was something I needed to get sorted so having a break and getting my head right and then coming back in early and getting everything sorted so I’m ready for the season is something I’m looking forward to.”

Henderson, who made 26 appearances for United last year, is vying for the keeper's shirt with David De Gea.

The Spaniard has returned to the club fold after a break following the Euros.

United play a final pre-season friendly on Saturday next, against Rafa Benitez's Everton.

They then get their league season up-and-running with a home fixture against Leeds United a week later.
