Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan believes there are half a dozen players in the League of Ireland who could be on Martin O'Neill's radar.
The 24-year-old has been tipped for a place in the upcoming Ireland squad for the November's fixtures, thanks to excellent performances domestically and in the Europa League.
While Horgan's focus is firmly on the here and now, he told Off The Ball that good performances in the next few weeks could open the door for him and other League of Ireland players.
"At the minute, I'll be solely focused on Dundalk. We've a league to win and a couple of European games and hopefully a cup final to win too," he said.
"If I can do well in that maybe Martin might decide to bring me into the squad. But at this moment in time, I'm not in the squad but it'd be fantastic for myself and to be honest with you, I think Martin, it's just not me he's looking at. I think there's definitely four or five or six players in the league he could bring in.
"I suppose the school of thought was you have to be away but maybe at this stage now, the fact that ourselves and Cork have done well in Europe and proved it against internationals and big players from big countries, [it shows] that maybe there is quality in the league and players are able to make that step up."
Horgan also spoke about going on trial at Torquay, Barnsley and Peterborough United with nothing coming of it in terms of moves, although he has no regrets given the excitement that has followed at Dundalk with Europa League progress and league titles.
"To be honest, it's probably one of the biggest lessons I could ever have had. I've got to play constantly here in the first team and in the Europa League and winning leagues. It's been special the last couple of years," he said, adding that at the time he had thought those trials in England had gone well.
"A couple of weeks after both trials, managers were sacked. It's so cut-throat."
The 24-year-old also feels the title race is far from over despite the 2-1 win over second place Cork City which gives Dundalk a four point gap at the top of the table.
"I definitely wouldn't say it's the season decider. It was a big win and puts us in the driving seat. But Cork are hot on our heels and I fully expect them to win all five of their games," he said.
