Brian Kerr does not believe the lack of crowds will impact the quality of games for the remainder of the Champions League knock out fixtures.
Speaking on Virgin Media Sport's coverage of the Champions League this evening, the former Republic of Ireland manager says he is most looking forward to the intensity and quality of football that awaits for the unique completion of Europe’s most elite competition.
“It’s awkward when there are no crowds," said Kerr, "and there's a lack of passion in the stadiums. But when you see good quality players with the desire and passion for the game driven by wanting to achieve for their team, you can get very, very good matches.
"We saw some very good games in the Premier League when good teams played against each other. So, I'm expecting these top teams playing against each other, even without the hostility and madness of the crowds”
Brian Kerr believes the new knockout structure, where the quarter-finals are one-off ties played in neutral stadiums will allow the best footballing team to win the competition.
“This situation will be a great leveler in terms of finding out who is actually the best team rather than maybe the best club with the supporter’s group to have the most influence on the game.
"When we get to these one-game ties after tonight's round, it'll be down to one match, everyone in the one city.
"No advantage, neutral venues so the best actual football team with the best coach and staff behind them should win those games and there should be no arguments about it”
