Lyon and Besiktas were due to kick off their Europa League quarter final first leg tie at 8.05pm Irish time.
But crowd trouble and a full scale pitch invasion prior to kick off saw the start time delayed at Lyon's Stade de Lumiere, although the game has since kicked off.
There was trouble outside the ground ahead of the match between French side Lyon and Turkish champions Besiktas.
As flashpoints unfolded, Lyon tweeted: "Projectiles and flares have been launched from the upper tiers of the stands, forcing fans to take refuge on the pitch".
