Cork City fail to close gap to Dundalk down to five points after draw at Sligo Rovers

Cork City have missed a chance to close the gap to SSE Airtricity League Premier Division leaders Dundalk down to five points.

A scoreless draw away to Sligo Rovers means John Caulfield's side are seven points behind the reigning champions.

However, Cork City do have a game in hand on Dundalk.

They also go head-to-head next month in a match that will have a bearing on the destination of the 2016 League of Ireland title.

Tonight's match was marked by yellow cards rather than goals as both Cork and Sligo picked up three bookings each at the Showgrounds.

However, Sligo had more shots on and off the target.
