Champions League Preview: Man City could be in for a long night

Free scoring Monaco travel to the Etihad tonight looking to topple Pep Guardiola's charges and heap even more pressure on the Spaniard.

City are well off the pace in the Premier League and what originally looked like a favourable draw for them in Europe may be much tougher than expected.

Despite abandoning their big spending plans a few years back, Monaco invested heavily in their academy and are reaping the benefits of that decision only a few seasons on.

The are currently top of Ligue 1, three points ahead of PSG and Nice, and have only lost three league games all season.

They have scored an incredible 76 goals in their 24 league matches so far which culminated in the return to form of Colombian striker Radmal Falcao - who has scored 19 goals in all competitions.

Man City will be without defender Vincent Kompany who is recovering from a leg injury he picked up in training.

The other match of the night sees Bayer Leverkusen host Atletico Madrid.

Last year's runners-up are just about keeping pace in La Liga and are seven points behind bitter cross-city rivals Real at the top of the table although the leaders have two matches in hand.

Leverkusen are in eighth place in the Bundesliga although they have won their last two matches.
