'You feel this was Liverpool's big chance' - Kevin Kilbane

Luis Suarez' tears and the obvious disappointment of his team-mates has pretty much signaled that Liverpool have given up on the Premier League title even if they are mathematically in with a chance of pipping Manchester City.

But there is a palpable feeling that Liverpool have blown their best chance of winning a long-awaited Premier League title.

Next year the Reds face the extra congestion of Champions League football, will also lose their surprise factor, while their rivals will strengthen.

Kevin Kilbane joined us on the line to analyse last night's collapse against Crystal Palace and whether Liverpool can find their feet again after seemingly letting the title slip between their fingers.

"The one real focus this year was to focus on the Premier League. Historically no team has won the Premier League without being in the Champions League, so that probably dispels that myth. Liverpool might need more experience together as a team and there's still talk of Luis Suarez leaving. If they can keep hold of Suarez and get another centre half in, then they're going to be stronger," said Kilbane, who believes all of the teams around them will strengthen again by the time next season starts.

"You feel this was Liverpool's big chance, especially when it was in their hands after that City game."

The former Ireland international feels that Liverpool need at least three or four new players in order to deal with the extra Champions League fixtures, while he also analysed where the Reds went wrong against Crystal Palace last night.

A former left-sided player, Kilbane also assessed the career of Manchester United legend and caretaker manager Ryan Giggs and where he fits on the pantheon of the great left wingers.
