Connolly shines as Spurs' issues deepen

In his first-ever Premier League start, 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international Aaron Connolly has made a name for himself.

The Galway native, who's in Stephen Kenny's Under-21 Ireland setup,  scored twice, in a man of the match performance, as Brighton & Hove Albion beat Tottenham 3-0.

The youngster was jubilant at full-time;

"I can't really put it into words at the minute. Obviously it's a dream come true; I've watched it since I four or five maybe.

"Watching Premier League years all the time, to be playing in it and obviously scoring in it now, it's indescribable, a dream come true.

"I didn't really know how to celebrate, to be honest, I can't really put it into words, I'm speechless."

Manager Graham Potter was full of praise for Connolly after the performance;

"He's been knocking on the door.

"He's had some substitute appearances and been unlucky not to score and he gives us an extra dimension.

"I'm delighted for him, he's a young lad with a big future, we're delighted that we've got him with us.

"He took his goals really well, particularly the second.

"It was a fantastic piece of attacking play."

On the other side of things, this result extends Tottenham's terrible run which they are desperate to break.

They now have not won away from home in the league since January.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed this following a lengthy discussion with his players in the dressing room.

"For the team to concede such an important player in the first action, tough moment.

"We tried to find a solution, a different way to play but it was impossible.

"I feel sorry for the fans, massive effort for them to come and support us but now you cannot find any way to console them.

"We were on the top all together, when this type of moment arrives we need to stick all together."
