Brazilian football legend Carlos Alberto has passed away at the age of 72.
He died in Rio de Janeiro as a result of a heart attack.
The former right-back captained his country to World Cup glory in 1970.
He also seared his name into memory by scoring the wonderful fourth goal in that 4-1 win over Italy in Mexico when he put the finishing touch on one of the greatest team goals ever scored on the grandest stage of all.
Alberto won 53 Brazil caps between 1964 and 1977, going on to be named in the World Team of the 20th Century.
At club level, he started out at Pele's Santos in Brazil, before joining Fluminense in 1974 and then transferring to Flamengo in 1977.
He then followed Pele to the United States to join the world famous North American Soccer League club New York Cosmos in 1977, staying for three years.
After retiring as a player, Alberto went into coaching and management, initially in his homeland but also further afield.
His most recent managerial move came in 2005 when he managed the Azerbaijan national team.
