Bohemians up to second as Dundalk's title challenge falters at Dalymount

Bohemians are up to second in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division table.

Keith Long's side saw off the challenge of defending champions Dundalk 2-1 in the evening sun of Dalymount Park.

All the goals came in the first half, with Danny Grant and captain Keith Buckley putting Bohs 2-0 up inside 15-minutes.

Michael Duffy pulled one back for the visitors three-minutes before the break.

The Gypsies will go into the weekend three-points adrift of leaders Shamrock Rovers.

While Dundalk's second dropped points of the week sees them five-points from the summit, and with game more played than the Hoops

Kris Twardek proved the difference between the sides in that first period, the Canadian winger testing experienced Dundalk full-back Sean Gannon at every turn.

It was his work down the left that fed Anto Breslin, whose lofted ball was met at the far post by the head of Danny Grant to give Bohs a 7th minute lead.

Twardek was again the creator for Bohemians' second.

A long punt from goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness was gathered by the winger, who bamboozled Gannon once again before sending a cross into the Dundalk box.

The ball was laid off to captain Buckley who slotted home from the edge of the box past Gary Rogers.

Dundalk found their feet as the half wore on, and it was more fine wing work that led to their goal.

Stefan Colovic did to Breslin what Twardek had earlier done to Gannon, leaving the full-back flat-footed as he crossed to the back post.

A bullet header from Michael Duffy saw Dundalk go in 2-1 down at half-time.

Next up for Dundalk are back-to-back games with Waterford - first in the FAI Cup, then in the league.

While a buoyant Bohs now have a week-long gap before they travel to Finn Harps on Saturday-week.
