Bohemians remain confident about receiving Matt Doherty money

This article has been updated.

OTB Sports understands that Bohemians still expect to receive 10% of Matt Doherty’s transfer fee regardless of whether his move to Tottenham Hotspur is part of a swap deal.

Bohemians remain confident they will receive a portion of the transfer fee expected to accompany Matt Doherty's proposed move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Spurs.

It is widely expected that the Republic of Ireland full-back Doherty will leave Wolves for Spurs, with Bohs anticipating a financial boost in the transfer, despite an OTB Sports source earlier claiming that Bohs could potentially miss out if Doherty is involved in a swap deal.

In an update to this article, Bohs believe that they are still entitled to 10% of the value of the deal even if it is a player-push-cash arrangement.

Signed by Wolves from Bohs in 2010 for a reported £75,000, the terms of Doherty's sale dictated that 10% of any fee subsequently paid to Wolves for the Irish defender would go to the League of Ireland club.

With a fee ranging between £12-£16 million set to trade hands in the transfer, Bohs are in a position to earn in excess of £1 million from the deal.

Speaking to OTB Sports on Thursday afternoon ahead of their Europa League qualifier away to Fehervar in Hungary, Bohs manager Keith Long said, "There's no doubt we could put that to good use, that type of windfall. Any club would be over the moon with that type of investment, or in this case, it's a 'sell-on'".

Long continued: "It's a return on Matt Doherty. Matt's been away in the UK, he's been performing at a very, very high level for Wolves and it's a big move for him. The club will be rewarded if that was to transpire."

After completing an extended season with Wolves between their commitments in the Premier League and the Europa League, it is understood that Doherty remains on holidays in Italy.

Expected to return to the UK on Thursday, a deal taking the Dubliner to London is likely to be confirmed by the week's end when all of the necessary tasks at hand have been met.
