Rangers manager Steven Gerrard praised his side after they beat arch-rivals Celtic 2-1 at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.
Gerrard’s side moved within two points of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership and the former Liverpool player didn’t downplay the significance of the win.
“Listen, it’s a big win. This club hasn’t had much success or joy here for a long time. You’d have to think about everything that’s been said in the build-up about Celtic and the run they’re on and the form they’re in. The amount they’ve won of late.
“So we’ve come here and faced a real big challenge and a good team. We dominated the majority of the game so the players deserve an awful lot of credit,” Gerrard said.
The Gers were unlucky not to have beaten Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final earlier this month with a controversial goal from Christopher Jullien sealing the win for the Celts.
Gerrard explained that his side used that heartbreaking loss as motivation heading into today’s game.

“If you look at the cup final, we’d come away in a different mood than you’d normally come away from in a cup final because we were dominant throughout.
“Obviously, their goal was offside and we missed a penalty and the big things didn’t go our way that day. We didn’t feel sorry for ourselves and we tried to learn from it. We came here today and we fancied it.
“That’s seven away games from nine. We’ve been really strong. We have the best away form in the league now so we fancied this.
“We showed great character to bounce back from 1-all… Again, we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’re trying to create a team here that’s a big team and has got big players.
“They don't understand when they’re beaten. Whatever happens - setbacks, a game going against us - we keep going.
“We showed that we’re big players individually and a big team collectively. Hopefully, a lot of people will take note of that performance today,” Gerrard said.
