Benik Afobe 'devastated' after the death of infant daughter

Stoke City striker Benik Afobe has said that his family are 'devastated and heartbroken' after the death of his two year-old daughter Amora on Friday.

Afobe is currently on loan at Bristol City, as his daughter was taken into hospital on Friday following a 'severe infection'.

Bristol City released a statement on her death and what is being done to take care of the Afobe family:

"Amora was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection," the statement read.

"Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and, despite doctors doing absolutely everything that they could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side.

"The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken, and would like to ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time."

Bristol City dedicate win to Afobe family

Bristol City beat Huddersfield Town 5-2 at home yesterday, and chief executive Mark Ashton dedicated the win to Afobe and his family after the tragedy.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Bristol City are with Benik and his wife Lois at this tragic time. We cannot imagine the heartache they are feeling and we will do all we can to support them.”

Head Coach Lee Johnson said: “I’d like to dedicate that win to the big man and his family – much love to you all.”

Afobe has been something of an enigmatic striker over the last few years, beginning his career at Arsenal as a young player, before taking loan spells at no less than six clubs before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2015.

A move to Bournemouth followed soon after, before a return to Wolves and then a permanent transfer to Stoke City soon after.
