Aston Villa have "parted company" with manager Roberto Di Matteo, the club announced on Monday morning.
In a statement released this today, the club cited the run of "disappointing" results, which includes one win, seven draws and three defeats in their 11 opening games of the Championship season.
The news comes following reports that owner Tony Jiantong Xia had become frustrated with the run of results which culminated in a 2-0 defeat away to Preston North End.
"The Club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship," they said in a statement today.
"The Club would like to place on record its appreciation to Roberto for all his efforts in helping rebuild the squad and wish him well for the future."
They added: "There will be no further comment from the Club."
Steve Clarke will assume the role as interim manager while the club goes in search of a new manager.
Di Matteo took over at Villa this year and his reign lasted just 123 days. He managed German club Shalke 04 before resigning in the summer.
He also managed MK Dons and West Brom, before taking over at Chelsea after the sacking of Andres-Villas Boas in 2012. He would go on to capture a first Champions League crown for the London side.
