Arsene Wenger hails England job as a "good challenge" and fails to rule out move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he will honour his contract will Arsenal amid speculation that he will take over as England manager next year.

The Frenchman has one year remaining on his current deal and has been linked with taking over for Roy Hodgson, who resigned in the aftermath of England's 2-1 defeat to Iceland on Monday night.

"I have a contract until 2017 with Arsenal and I have always respected my contracts, but I don’t know what I’ll do after,” he said whilst appearing on BeIN Sports on Saturday night.

"But it’s a good challenge [to manage England] for any coach. The players are young, they have quality players. They can only do better."

England U21 manager Gareth Southgate has ruled himself out to become manager even on a interim basis, while Glenn Hoddle has also been suggested to take over in a caretaker capacity.

Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour said earlier this week that capturing Wenger would be a huge "real coup".

"If they can get him, if they can persuade him to take the job, he would be a top manager to have. He knows his football, he knows the Premier League, he knows the English players.

"I would be a great coup for the FA if they can get someone like Wenger but I just think the pull of club football is too strong for him."
