Arsenal's Mustafi not giving up hope of catching Chelsea

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi insists they can still win the Premier League title despite two defeats in the space of a week.

Arsene Wenger's team lost 2-1 at home to Watford last Tuesday before going down 3-1 at leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

They are now 12 points off the top and with Chelsea showing little sign of slowing down, the odds are very much against Arsenal.

But Mustafi has told Sky Sports News that he has not given up hope.

"I think it's going to be more difficult than it was before but I'm a believer. I don't give up," said the Germany international.

"As long as it's possible we're going to fight for it, and in the end we will see and if we're lucky enough and good enough to go for it or not."

Mustafi arrived at Arsenal in the summer from Valencia and has made a generally positive impact at the club as half of a central defensive partnership with Laurent Koscielny.

The 24 year old has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season.

Mustafi's impact in the dressing room was also noted by team-mate Theo Walcott earlier in the season, higlighting his vocal nature.

He told The Guardian's Amy Lawrence: "Of the new players, [Mustafi] especially gets people up for games. If you are not doing something right he tells you. He is a German international and that is the way he is."
