Sitting eight points off the Premier League's Champions League spots and without a win in seven games, Arsenal have sacked their manager Unai Emery.
The news came through a club statement after a short meeting of the club's board on Friday morning.
Many Arsenal fans had held #EmeryOut posters at Arsenal's 1-2 loss at home to Frankfurt on Thursday night, while many more had stayed away from the ground as a sign of their apathy towards Emery's team.
As Freddie Ljungberg takes over the first team on an interim basis and Emery packs his bags from the club's training ground, many have been giving their view on social media.
9 – Unai Emery named nine different Arsenal captains during his 78 games in charge, with only one of those players wearing the armband on more than 20 occasions (Laurent Koscielny, 24). Whimsical. pic.twitter.com/efEBbMfXTB

Fascinating opportunity for Freddie Ljungberg once the news of Unai Emery's departure is confirmed. Interested to see who takes on the role of Freddie's assistant as he will certainly need one for his first role at the sharp end. A fresh page thankfully.

All the best in your next role, Unai.

Is Unai Emery the worst ‘top six’ manager ever? At least on a par with Villas Boas (at 2 clubs), Moyes, Van Gaal and Hodgson
