Arsenal outline plan for the return of supporters

Arsenal are hoping to welcome limited numbers of supporters back into Emirates Stadium for their home game with Sheffield United on October 3rd.

It has been reported that the Gunners are looking to allow some supporters to return in line with the current government guidelines.

The news comes a week after it was announced that there will be a number of trial games including supporters in the Scottish Premiership. These are likely to take place on September 12th.

Rangers are due to host Dundee United at Ibrox, while Celtic travel to Ross County, with both fixtures expected to be test events for supporters to return.

Arsenal had targeted Sheffield United's visit as a potential date for supporters to attend as early as last week.

An email sent to supporters outlined the clubs plans to welcome supporters back to Emirates Stadium.

"We are disappointed that our fixture against West Ham United on Saturday, September 19th will be played behind closed doors, but based on current Government guidelines we hope to welcome supporters back to Emirates Stadium for the Sheffield United game scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd," the email read.

"We will share full information regarding fan attendance at reduced capacity matches by Wednesday, September 2nd."

It is positive news for everyone connected with football and should the move prove to be a success it could be a catalyst for other teams in the Premier League to follow suit.

There were 700 spectators allowed inside Murrayfield for Edinburgh's PRO 14 loss to Glasgow Warriors on August 22nd. This was the first time any sport in Britain had allowed supporters into a stadium since the lockdown began in March.

The Premier League returned in June and managed to finish the truncated season in August. All of these fixtures were played behind closed doors.
