All Olympic referees and judges stood down by the AIBA

The 36 referees and judges used in the Olympic Games will not be allowed officiate bouts until the AIBA, the World governing body have concluded their investigation.

A professional-type system was introduced for Rio, which saw many dubious decisions take place in the latter stages of the competition.

In a statement released by the AIBA from their Extraordinary Commission Meeting in Lausanne, they announced that all referees and judges (R&J) were to be temporarily stood down.

"A small number of decisions under debate indicated that further reforms in the AIBA R&J procedures were necessary."

"The results of a specific R&J investigation, currently underway, will allow AIBA to fully assess what action needs to be taken. In the mean time, it has been decided that all 36 R&Js that were used at the Olympic Games will not officiate at any AIBA event until the investigation reaches its conclusion, along with further immediate measures adopted by the commissions."

Michael Conlan's loss to Vladimir Nikitin was one of the most controversial results in the Games. Despite Conlan's loss in the bantamweight quarter-finals, there was another contoversial result in the heavyweight final.

Russia's Evgeny Tishchenko controversially defeated Vasily Levit of Kazakhstan, less than 24 hours before Conlan's loss. It was widely acknowledged that the Kazakh fighter had won the final.

The next AIBA event takes place in Russia, when the World Youth Championships take place next month.
