Two goals from Sadio Mane gave Liverpool their first Premier League win of 2017 and dented Tottenham's title aspirations.
The 2-0 victory for Liverpool at Anfield lifts Jurgen Klopp up to fourth on goal difference ahead of Manchester City and also leaves Spurs nine points behind runaway leaders Chelsea, who now have a game in hand away at Burnley on Sunday.
The Saturday evening game was ultimately decided in at two minute spell just after the quarter hour mark.
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum gained possession on 16 minutes before playing in an excellent through ball for Mane to run onto.

The Senegal international, who spent much of January at the Africa Cup of Nations, made no mistake as he beat Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris to find the net.
And two minutes later, Mane would strike again as he ended up in the right place at the right time.
After Lloris thwarted Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino in quick succession, Mane was on hand to lash in the rebound to net his 11th league goal of what has been a fine debut season individually at Liverpool.
Tottenham were unable to muster a comeback as Liverpool held on and left Chelsea with the opportunity to stretch their lead to 12 points tomorrow provided they defeat Burnley.
For Liverpool it also ends a poor run in the league since the New Year with their first victory of 2017.
